It all goes back to high school, where I did not peak, because I was very bad **at this thing called mathematics.
But then, I was lucky enough to have experienced the power of great instruction from many incredible math teachers, who changed my approach to learning this daunting and beautiful subject.
After earning my degree in mathematics and Japanese (another story for another time), I knew I wanted to give back. I jumped into education by becoming an AmeriCorps math tutor at a public high school.
As my one-year program ended and I moved to work full-time for a private tutoring company, I began to realize what I was truly interested in: designing and improving systems that help people learn really complex things.
And it didn’t matter if that thing is mathematics, science, languages, or technology! So, it was time to take some action.
As I kept tutoring on the side, I earned a certificate, joined an EdTech lab, and applied for a M.A. in Learning Technology & Experience design.
Then, I found the opportunity for a workplace L&D internship, and later a role as an instructional designer (ID), where I am now enjoying a perfect mix of fun and challenge.
